The purpose of this Bill would be to amend the Industrial Relations Act, Chap. 88:01, to strengthen and improve the industrial relations system in Trinidad and Tobago by making the system more efficient, more effective and more expeditious from the recognition of the union to dispute settlement. There is also a need to create an independent dispute settlement process in the formation of the Conciliation and Mediation Service (“CAMS”) and to foster the independence of the Industrial Court. The Bill, as introduced, requires the support of three-fifths of the members of Both Houses in order to be passed, and will come into effect upon Proclamation.
