This Bill seeks to amend the Constitution to give the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago the power to appoint persons to the Industrial Court on the advice of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission.
In addition, the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, before advising the President, shall co-op from among practicing professionals in the field of industrial relations, labour, economics and others as regards advice in relation to those Justices of the Court who do not have the qualifications to be appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Judicature.
The Bill, as introduced, requires the support of three-fourths of the members of the House of Representatives, and two-thirds of the Members of the Senate, in order to be passed. It will come into effect upon Proclamation.
