
Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan
Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan was re-elected to the House of Representatives as the Member for Tabaquite in the 11th Parliament, following the General Election of September 7, 2015.
Dr. Rambachan previously served as a Senator and Minister in the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and as an Ambassador to Brazil during the 3rd Republican Parliament (1987-1991). He was appointed an Opposition Senator in the 9th Republican Parliament after a hiatus of almost 20 years. Dr. Rambachan first successfully contested the Tabaquite constituency on May 24, 2010 and was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on May 28th of that year.
Dr. Rambachan was a founding member of the Organization for National Reconstruction (ONR) in 1980, where he served as Deputy Political Leader of the party. He is a prominent academic and cultural activist, and is also a former mayor of Chaguanas. Dr. Rambachan is an outstanding Ramayan scholar, Bhajan singer and politician. He played a vital role in the formation of Indian Arrival Day as a national celebration.
