An Act to amend the Freedom of Information Act, Chap. 22:02

The Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (“the Bill”) seeks to amend sections 7, 8 and 9 of the Freedom of Information Act, Chap. 22:02 (“the Act”) and regulation 3(1)(b) of the Freedom of Information (Publication of Arrangements) Regulations, Chap. 22:02.

Clause 1 would provide for the short title of the proposed Act. Clause 2 would amend sections 7(1)(a) and (b), 8(2)(a) and (b), and 9(2)(a) and (b) of the Act and regulation 3(1)(b) of the Freedom of Information (Publication of Arrangements) Regulations, Chap. 22:02, to remove the requirement for the publication in a daily newspaper circulating in Trinidad and Tobago of a public authority’s annual public statements, and to replace it with a requirement for those statements to be published either in a daily newspaper circulating in Trinidad and Tobago or on a publicly accessible website.
