1st Session of the 8th Republican Parliament

The Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill, 2002

An Act to amend the Freedom of Information Act, 1999

The purpose of this Bill is to amend the Freedom of Information Act, 1999 to delete the definition of “Minister” and substitute it with a new definition.

This amendment would give the general responsibility for carrying into effect the provisions of the Act, to the Minister to whom responsibility for information is assigned.

The Bill would also amend section 25(3) of the Act to remove any doubt that the Minister who is authorized to certify documents
relating to national security is the Minister to whom responsibility
for national security is assigned.
