The Clerk read the Proclamation by Her Excellency the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago declaring the 2nd Session of the 13th Parliament open. Representatives of several faiths then delivered prayers on the occasion of the opening of the Second Session of the 13th Parliament.

The President of the Senate read the instruments issued by the President of the Republic declaring the seat of Sen. Janelle John-Bates vacant, appointing Dr. Margaret Satya Rose as an Opposition Senator and appointing Sen. Ashworth Jack to temporarily replace Sen. the Hon. Leroy Baptiste.

The Senate paid tributes to former Senator Herbert Lionel Atwell, who passed away in late May. The House then stood for a moment of silence.
