Six questions qualified for oral answer. Questions #36, #37 and #73 were deferred for two weeks.
The Leader of Government Business moved a motion to allow an extension to May 27, 2019 to the JSC on the Constitution (Amendment) (Tobago Self-Government) Bill, 2018 in order for the Committee to complete its work and submit a report. The motion was approved.
He then moved a motion to allow an extension to February 28, 2019 to the JSC on the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority Bill, 2018 in order for the Committee to complete its work and submit a report. This motion was also approved.
The Attorney General moved the second reading of The Miscellaneous Provisions (Proceeds of Crime, Anti-Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad and Tobago) Bill, 2018. Debate began on the Bill. Following the debate, the Bill was referred to the Committee of the Whole Senate for consideration clause by clause. The Bill was read a third time and passed, without amendments.
Sen. Anita Haynes raised a matter on the adjournment namely the failure of the Government to address the overburden accommodation at the Port of Spain General Hospital since the decommissioning of Central Block at said hospital. The Minister of Health responded.
Senator Haynes raised another matter regarding Sandals Hotel in Tobago. The Minister of Planning and Development responded.
Following greetings by Senators on the occasion of Christmas, the Sitting concluded at 9:16 p.m. The Senate adjourned to a date to be fixed.
