8th Sitting of the Senate
2nd Session - 10th Republican Parliament
The President granted leave of absence to Sen. the Hon. Timothy Hamel-Smith and Sen. the Hon. Kevin Ramnarine. Mr. Rabindra Moonan and Mr. Kevin Bhagaloo were appointed to temporarily replace Senators Hamel-Smith and Ramnarine respectively during their absence.
The Administration of Justice (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) Bill, 2011, which was passed in the House of Representatives on November 9, 2011, was read a first time in the Senate in the name of the Minister of Justice.

Two Bills were introduced, The Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons Bill, 2011 and the Legal Aid and Advice (Amendment) Bill, 2011. The bills were introduced by the Minister of National Security and the Minister of Justice respectively, who both moved that the next stage of the Bill be taken at a sitting of the Senate to be held on Tuesday November 29, 2011.
The Minister of Justice moved the second reading of the Administration of Justice (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) Bill, 2011. The debate was initiated by Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi, followed by Sen. Basharat Ali, Sen. Nicole Dyer-Griffith and Sen. Terrence Deyalsingh. Eight Senators made contributions before debate was suspended.
At the next sitting of the Senate, Private Business will take precedence, specifically a motion by Sen. Fitzgerald Hinds concerning the strengths and deficiencies of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. The sitting adjourned at 10:03 p.m.
