Debate resumed on the budget for fiscal 2018 with the Member for Couva South being first to contribute, followed by the Attorney General, the Member for Oropouche East, the Minister of Planning and Development, the Member for Chaguanas West and the Prime Minister. The Minister of Finance then rose to conclude. The Bill was then read a second time. The Bill was then referred to the Standing Finance Committee for consideration along with the Estimates. The Committee engaged in preliminary discussions to agree on a work schedule over five days. Standing Finance Committee concluded on October 23, 2017 at which time the Bill was read a third time and passed with a division of 21 for, none against and eight abstentions.
The House paid tribute to the First Peoples of Trinidad and Tobago, ahead of the holiday on October 13, 2017. The House then extended greetings to the Hindu community ahead of Divali, which will be celebrated on October 18, 2017.
