6th Sitting of the Senate

Tributes were paid in the Senate to the late Mr. Barry Sydney Barnes who passed away on October 14, 2011. He served as a Minister of Government during the 4th Republican Parliament as the country’s Minister of Energy and Energy Industries from 1992 to 1995.
The President of the Senate granted Leave of Absence to Sen. the Hon. Vasant Bharath. Rev. Barbara Gray-Burke was appointed to temporarily replace Sen. Bharath during his absence from Trinidad and Tobago.

The Budget Debate is expected to continue in the Senate (from October 20, 2011). The debate contribution was started by Sen. the Hon. Fazal Karim, followed by contributions from Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi, Sen. Dr. James Armstrong and Sen. the Hon. Emmanuel George. Ten Members made contributions today (30 over the course of three days) before the Minister of Finance rose to conclude.
At the next sitting of the Senate, Private Business will take precedence, specifically a motion by Sen. Fitzgerald Hinds. The sitting ended at 9:47 p.m.
