Leave of absence was given to the Member for Siparia who is out of the country, the Member for Diego Martin West who is out of the country , the Member for Fyzabad and the Member for Barataria/San Juan as well as the Member for Port-of-Spain South who are both out of the country.
The Speaker then offered the Member for Oropouche East best wishes on the birth of his son.
The Speaker invited the members of the House to pay tribute to the sad passing of Dr. Carl Singh, Former Member of Parliament for the Constituency of Tabaquite during the 4th Parliament for the period of 1991-1995. The Member for Oropouche East was the first to contribute followed by the Member for Diego Martin North/East. The Speaker then rose to offer his own words of tribute.
The Securities (Amendment) Bill, 2013 was introduced.
Three Papers were laid. The Member for Couva South moved that Papers nos. 1 and 2 be referred to the Public Accounts Committee. The Motion was put and agreed to.
10 Questions qualifies for Oral Answer. Questions Nos. 96, 147, 149, 136 and 162 were orally answered. Questions Nos. 148, 158 and 165 were deferred for one week. Questions Nos. 160 and 161 remained unanswered at the expiration of question time and were postponed to the next sitting.
The Leader of the House moved that Mr. Chandresh Sharma be appointed to serve as a member of the Public Accounts (Enterprises) Committee. The Question was put and agreed to.
The Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development moved the second reading of the Planning and Facilitation of Development Bill, 2013. The Member for St. Joseph was the first to contribute on the Bill followed by the Member for Tabaquite, the Member for St. Ann’s East, the Member for Arouca/Maloney, the Member for La Horquetta/Talparo and the Member for Diego Martin North/East. The Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development then rose to conclude.
The House adjourned to Friday July 18, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at which time, they will consider the Securities (Amendment) Bill, 2013, the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Bill, 2014, as well as a Motion to approve Senate amendments to The Nurses and Midwives Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2014. Before adjourning the Speaker indicated his observance of a growing trend in the House where members of the Senate were being criticized, in contravention of the Standing Orders. The sitting ended at 8:49 p.m.
