Leave of Absence

The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Vice-President, Sen. James Lambert and Opposition Senator, Sen. Shamfa Cudjoe who are both out of the country. Mr. Wayne Sturge and Mr. Stuart Young were appointed Temporary Senators in their absence.

Three Papers

Three Papers were laid in the House. One was presented by the Minister of Local Government, another by the Minister of Food Production and the last paper was presented by the Leader of Government Business on behalf of the Vice-President. See the Order Paper and Supplemental Order Paper.

Bills Brought From The House Of Representatives
The Gambling (Gaming and Betting) Control Bill, 2015

The Bill, which was passed in the House on Friday May 29, 2015 was read a first time in the Senate. The Leader of Government Business moved that the next stage of the Bill be taken at a sitting of the Senate on June 8, 2015.

Two reports from Select Committees were presented by Independent Senator, Sen. Elton Prescott, S.C. in the House. See the Order Paper.

Government Business: Bills Second Reading
The Family and Children Division Bill, 2015

The Attorney General moved the second reading of the Family and Children Division Bill, 2015. Temporary Senator, Mr. Stuart Young was first to enter the debate followed by Independent Senator, Sen. Elton Prescott, S.C. then Temporary Senator, Mr. Wayne Sturge. Twelve Senators made contributions before the Attorney General rose to conclude. The Senate resolved into Committee stage to consider the Family and Children Division Bill, 2015 clause by clause. The Family and Children Division Bill, 2015 was approved and passed.

The Senate adjourned to Monday June 8th, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.

At the next sitting, debate is expected to continue on the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Bill, 2014 as well as the Waste Recycling Bill, 2015. The sitting ended at 11:58 p.m.
