Announcements / Leave of Absence

The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. the Hon. Embau Moheni who is ill and Sen. Faris Al-Rawi who is out of the country.

The President then read correspondence from the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago appointing Ms. Ashaki Scott and Mr. Stuart Young as temporary Senators. They then took the Oath of Allegiance as temporary Senators for the day’s sitting.

The Minister of Finance and the Economy laid the Report of the Auditor General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on the Financial Statements of the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago for fifteen and a half months ended September 30, 2005.

The Judges Salaries and Pensions (Amendment) Bill, 2013

The Debate on this Bill which commenced on June 24, 2014 resumed, the following Senators joined the debate: Sen. Dr. Dhanayshar Mahabir was the first to contribute followed by Sen. H.R Ian Roach, Sen. Anthony Vieira, Sen. Rolph Balgobin and several others. After winding up the debate, the Leader of Government Business moved that the Bill be referred to a Special Select Committee of the Senate for consideration and that the Committee be required to report to the Senate by July 30th 2014. The Motion was put and agreed to.

The Leader of Government Business then moved that debate on this Bill which commenced on June 24, 2014 be resumed, the following Senators joined the debate: Sen. Camille Robinson-Regis, Sen. Helen Drayton, Sen. Dr. Victor Wheeler and several others. After winding up the debate, the Leader of Government Business moved that the Bill be referred to the Special Select Committee of the Senate which has been established to consider and report on the Judges Salaries and Pensions (Amend) Bill, 2014 for consideration and that the Committee be required to report to the Senate by July 30th 2014. The Motion was put and agreed to.
