Leave of absence was granted to the Member for Tunapuna who is out of the country for the period of May 25th to June 6th, 2014,the Member for Arima who is out of the country for the period of June 6th – 12th 2014 and the Member for Fyzabad who is out of the country and asked to be excused from today’s sitting. The Speaker also granted leave to the Member for D’Abadie/O’Meara and the Member for San Fernando East who asked to be excused from today’s sitting.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development introduced the Retiring Allowances (Legislative Service) (Amendment) Bill, 2014.

Government Business: Bills Second Reading
The Indictable Offences (Committal Proceedings) Bill, 2014

The Attorney General moved the second reading of the Indictable Offences (Committal Proceedings) Bill, 2014. The Member for Diego Martin North East was the first to contribute to the Bill followed by the Member for St. Augustine, the Member for Chaguanas West, the Member for La Horquetta/Talparo, the Member for St. Joseph, the Member for Cumuto/Manzanilla, the Port-of-Spain South, the Oropouche West, the Member for Diego Martin Central. The Attorney General then rose to wind up the debate. The House then resolved itself to Committee Stage where the Bill was considered Clause by Clause. The Bill was then read a third time and passed with amendments with a division of 18 Members For, 10 Against and 0 Abstentions

Matter On The Adjournment
The Government’s failure to deal effectively with the current foreign exchange crisis

The Member for Diego Martin North/East raised an issue on the Matter for Adjournment relating to the inability of the citizenry to access Foreign Exchange
