2nd Sitting of the Senate
4th Session - 10th Republican Parliament
The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. Dr. Victor Wheeler, who is out of the country. Dr. Aysha Edwards was appointed to temporarily replace Sen. Dr. Wheeler during his absence. The President also read the instruments revoking the appointments of Senators Outid, Moore and Mohammed. Mr. Gerald Hadeed, Mr. Gary Griffith, and Mrs. Raziah Ahmed were appointed Senators. The President of the Senate indicated that the seat of Vice-President of the Senate was vacant and invited nominations for election. Sen. James Lambert was elected.
The President of the Senate then read a letter expressing Independence Day greetings from the Parliament of Canada.
The Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2013 was read a first time in the Senate in the name of the Minister of Local Government.

The Minister of Works and Infrastructure moved the second reading of the Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2013. The Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate was the first to contribute, followed by Sen. Subhas Ramkhelawan,the Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development, Sen. Shamfa Cudjoe, Sen. Helen Drayton, Sen. Hugh Russell Ian Roach, Sen. Terrence Deyalsingh, Sen. Elton Prescott, SC, Sen. Faris Al-Rawi, Sen. Dr. Rolph Balgobin, Sen. the Hon. Marlene Coudray, Sen. Anthony Vieira, Sen. Fitzgerald Hinds, Sen. David Small, the Attorney General, Temporary Sen. Dr. Aysha Edwards. The Minister of Works and Infrastructure then rose to respond. The Bill was considered in Committee and passed without amendment. It was then read a third time and passed.
The Senate adjourned to 20th September 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at which time the budget debate is expected to commence.
