The President received correspondence from the President of the Republic declaring the seat of Opposition Senator, Gerald Hadeed, as vacant with effect from 20 October 2016. Appointed in this seat, with effect from 20 October 2016 was Mr. Gerald Ramdeen.

Senator Gerald Ramdeen took his oath of allegiance as an Opposition Senator.

Tributes were paid to former Independent Senator, Mr. Allan Alexander. A minute of silence was observed.

The Appropriation (Financial Year 2017) Bill 2016 was brought from the House of Representatives. The Minister of Finance moved that the next stage of the Bill be taken later in the proceedings.
