The Prime Minister made a statement on the Report of the National Advisory Committee on Constitution Reform. [Pdf external link]
The Leader of the House moved that Marvin Gonzales be appointed to the Committee on National Security in lieu of Mr. Keith Scotland, SC. The House agreed. Later in the Sitting, the Leader of the House also moved that the Representation of the People Bill be referred to a Joint Select Committee, continuing the work in the 4th Session, and that the named members be appointed to serve with an equal number in the Senate.
The Attorney General moved the second reading of the Civil Division Bill, 2024. The Leader of the Opposition was first to enter the debate, followed by the Minister of Rural Development and Local Government and the Member for Barataria/San Juan. Six Members spoke before the Attorney General rose to wind up the debate. The Bill was referred to a Committee of the Whole where it was approved with amendments. The Bill was then read a third time and passed.
The House reverted to Announcements by the Speaker, where the Speaker appointed Members to the various Sessional Select Committees of the House of Representatives.
At the next Sitting, the Minister of Finance will present the budget for fiscal year 2025. Before adjourning the House extended Republic Day greetings to the national community. The Sitting ended at 6:38 p.m.
