Requests For Leave To Move The Adjournment Of The House On Definite Matters Of Urgent Public Importance
One Matter

The Member for Oropouche West sought leave of the House to raise as a definite matter of urgent public importance the matter of the Government’s failure to implement a comprehensive package of legislation for the protection of the nation’s children. The Speaker ruled that the matter did not qualify under this standing order.

Increase in Borrowing - Development Loans Act

The Minister of Finance (Hon. Karen Nunez-Teshiera, MP) moved a Motion to increase borrowing under the Development Loans Act. Five Members participated in the debate including the maiden contribution of the Member for La Horquetta/Talparo (Hon. Roger Joseph, MP). The Minister of Finance then concluded the debate. The Motion was approved.

Appointment of Joint Select Committees

The Leader of the House moved a Motion to appoint Members to three oversight Joint Select Committees. A Similar Motion was originally approved by the House on 14 March 2008, but amended by the Senate on 6 May 2008. The Member for Tabaquite made a brief intervention before the Leader of the House concluded the debate. The Motion was then approved by a division of 34 for and none against with no abstentions.
