The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. the Hon. Fazal Karim, Sen. the Hon. Kevin Ramnarine and Sen. the Hon. Dr. Rolph Balgobin who are all out of the country.
The President then read a letter from the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago appointing Ms. Ashaki Scott, Ms. Keitha Smith and Dr. Sharon Legall as temporary Senators. They then took the Oath of Allegiance as temporary Senators for the day’s sitting.

The Minister of Finance and the Economy moved that the Special Select Committee appointed to consider and report on the Securities (Amendment) Bill, 2013 be allowed an extension of time in order to submit a final report to the Senate by July 1st, 2014. The Motion was put and agreed to.
Seven Bills were brought from the House of Representatives. See the Supplemental Order Paper.
Debate resumed on a Private Motion by Sen. Helen Drayton on Election Campaign Financing Sen. Diane Baldeo-Chadeesingh resumed her contribution which was in progress on 6th May, 2014. Sen. the Hon. Ganga Singh was next to contribute. Sen. Helen Drayton then responded to the contributions of previous members. The Motion was then put to a vote and passed with a division of 24 members voting For, 0 members voting Against and 0 Abstentions
The Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development moved a Motion asking the Senate to adopt the Report of the Special Select Committee of the Senate on the Planning and Facilitation of Development Bill, 2013 Sen. Faris Al-Rawi was the first to contribute, Sen. Dr. Rolph Balgobin, Sen. the Hon. Marlene Coudray, Sen. Stuart Young, Sen. Anthony Vieira, Sen David Small, Sen. Diane Baldeo-Chadeesingh, Sen. Shamfa Cudjoe and Sen. Rev. Joy Abdul-Mohan. The Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development then rose to conclude.
Greeting for the occasion of Labour Day and Corpus Christi were brought by several members of the Senate including the Vice President of the Senate, Sen. Stuart Young and Sen. Dr. Dhanayshar Mahabir.
The President of the Senate then adjourned to Tuesday 24th June, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. to complete the debate on the Motion: Adopt Report – SSC – Planning and Facilitation of Development Bill, 2013.
