25th Sitting of the Senate
3rd Session - 10th Republican Parliament
The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen the Hon. Kevin Ramnarine, Sen. the Hon. Jamal Mohammed, Sen. the Hon. Vasant Bharath and Sen. Faris Al-Rawi, all of whom are out of the country. Archbishop Barbara Burke, Mr. Don Sylvester, Mr. Wayne Sturge and Mrs. Sherrie Ali were appointed to temporarily replace Senators Ramnarine, Mohammed, Bharath and Al-Rawi respectively during their absence. The President also welcomed to the Chamber students of the Siparia Road KPA School.

One Question qualified for oral answer. The leader of Government Business moved that the question be deferred for one week. See the Order Paper.
The Minister of Finance and the Economy moved the second reading of the Insurance Bill, 2013. Sen. Terrence Deyalsingh was the first to enter the debate, followed by Sen. Subhas Ramkhelawan, Sen. Dr. Lester Henry, Sen. Helen Drayton and Sen. Pennelope Beckles. The Minister of Finance and the Economy then rose to conclude the debate. The Bill was then referred to a Joint Select Committee.
At the next sitting, debate will continue on Private Business. Before adjourning, Sen. James Lambert, Sen. Pennelope Beckles, Sen. Elton Prescott, SC, and the President of the Senate extended Labour Day Greetings to the national community. The sitting ended at 4:40 p.m.
