The Leader of Government Business, Sen. the Hon. Dr. Amery Browne, moved a motion that the proceedings on the Miscellaneous Provisions (Trial by Judge Alone) Bill, 2023, be resumed in the next session at the adoption of the report stage. The motion was approved.
Debate resumed on the Whistleblower Protection Bill, 2022. Nine senators rose to contribute to the debate before the wind up by the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Sen. the Hon. Reginald Armour, S.C. The bill was then committed to a Committee of the Whole for consideration clause by clause. The bill was approved without amendments. With 23 votes for, 6 votes against and no abstentions, the bill was read a third time and passed.
Sen. Wade Mark raised a matter on the adjournment namely the need for the Government to explain its recent nominations of two (2) directors to the Board of One Caribbean Media Limited (OCM), and its impact on freedom of the press. The Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Hon. Brian Manning, MP, responded.
Sen. Anthony Vieira, S.C., raised a matter on the adjournment namely the need for the Government to ratify the Escazu Agreement on the access to information, public participation and justice in environmental matters in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sen. the Hon. Dr. Amery Browne, responded.
