The President of the Senate excused Sen. the Hon. Renuka Sagramsingh-Sooklal, Sen. Amrita Deonarine and Sen. Anthony Vieira from today’s Sitting. Mr. Michael Seales, Mr. John Heath SC and Dr. Margaret Burgess were appointed temporarily to replace Senators Sagramsingh-Sooklal, Deonarine and Vieira respectively.

Government Business: Bills Second Reading
The Arbitration Bill, 2023

The Attorney General moved the second reading of the Arbitration Bill, 2023. Debate then began on the Bill with ten members making contributions before the Attorney General rose to wind up. The Senate resolved itself into Committee to consider the Bill clause by clause. The Bill was approved with amendments, read a third time and passed.

Matter On The Adjournment
Two Matters

Sen. Paul Richards raised as a matter on the Motion for the adjournment, the need for the Government to adequately address
the issue of bullying in schools and its negative impact on the youth population. The Minister in the Ministry of Education responded.

Senator Wade Mark then raised, the need for the Government to provide an update on its plans and programmes in preparation for the upcoming 2023 hurricane season.

The Senate adjourned to a date to be fixed. Before adjourning, the Senate extended greetings to the national community on the occasion of Labour Day, to be commemorated on Monday 19th June, 2023. The Sitting ended at 7:42 p.m.
