23rd Sitting of the Senate
1st Session - 11th Republican Parliament
Leave of absence was granted to Senator Nadine Stewart, Senator Gerald Hadeed and Senator David Small who are out of the country and to Senator Sophia Chote, SC, who is ill. Mr. Imran Mohammed, Mr. Gerald Ramdeen, Mr. Clive Dottin and Mr. Albert Sydney were appointed to replace said Senators on a temporary basis respectively.
Temporary Senators, Mr. Imran Mohammed, Mr. Gerald Ramdeen, Mr. Clive Dottin and Mr. Albert Sydney took their oaths of allegiance.
Twenty-two (22) papers were laid in the names of the Minister of Finance, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, Minister of Trade and Industry, Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development and Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts. Four questions qualified for oral answer. Three questions were answered. Question #66 was deferred for two (2) weeks. See Order Paper for details.
Debate resumed on the motion: Condemn the actions of the Government in its dismissal of the Governor of Central Bank on December 24, 2015. The motion was not approved.
Senator Wade Mark moved the motion: Establish a Joint Select Committee to consider and report within three (3) months on a legislative formula for parliamentary autonomy in Trinidad and Tobago for debate. Sen. the Hon. Franklin Khan is first to enter the debate. The debate will continue at another Sitting.
