The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. Vishnu Dhanpaul from the day’s sitting. Mr. Sanjiv Boodhu was appointed to temporarily replace Sen. Dhanpaul during his absence.

The Bail (Amendment) Bill, 2026

The Minister of Defence and Minister in the Ministry of Homeland Security moved the second reading of the Bail (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Debate then began on the bill. 11 Members made contributions before the Minister of Defence and Minister in the Ministry of Homeland Security rose to wind up. The Bill was read a second time and committed to a Committee of the Whole Senate to be considered clause by clause. The Bill was considered and approved with amendments. The Bill was then read a third time and passed by a margin of 20 for, ten against and no abstentions.
