Leave of Absence

The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. Big. Gen. Carlton Alfonso and Sen. David Small. Mr. Daniel Solomon and Dr. Aysha Edwards were appointed to temporarily replace Senators Alfonso and Edwards during their absence.

Government Business: Bills Second Reading
The Trinidad and Tobago Panama Partial Scope Trade Agreement Bill, 2014

Debate is expected to begin on the Trinidad and Tobago Panama Partial Scope Trade Agreement Bill, 2014. The Minister of Trade, Industry, Investment and Communications moved the second reading of the Trinidad and Tobago Panama Partial Scope Trade Agreement Bill, 2014. Sen. Faris Al Rawi was first to enter the debate, followed by Sen. Dr. Dhanayshar Mahabir and the Minister of Energy Affairs. Ten Senators made contributions before the Minister of Trade, Industry, Investment and Communication rose to conclude the debate. The Bill was then read a second time and referred to a Committee of the whole Senate to be considered clause by clause. The Bill was considered in Committee and passed without amendment. It was then read a third time and passed.

The National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago (Amendment) Bill, 2014.

The Minister of National Diversity and Social Integration then moved the second reading of the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago (Amendment) Bill, 2014. Sen. Faris Al-Rawi was first to enter the debate, followed by Sen Dr. Rolph Balgobin and Sen. Dr. Dhanayshar Mahabir. Five Senators made contributions before the Minister rose to conclude the debate. The Bill was read a second time then referred to a Committee of the whole Senate. The Bill was considered in Committee and passed with amendment. It was then read a third time and passed.
