The Clerk of the House read the proclamation from His Excellency Arthur N.R. Robinson declaring the 1st Session of the 6th Republican Parliament open.

Election of Speaker
Dr. Rupert Griffith is elected Speaker
Election of Deputy Speaker
Mr. Subhas Panday is elected Deputy Speaker

Mr. Subhas Panday was elected Deputy Speaker of the House and subscribed to the oath of office.

Oath Of Allegiance Of A New Member
All Members take the oath of office

Each Member of the House of Representatives in turn took and subscribed to the oath of office/affirmation of allegiance as required by law. following this the Speaker announced that His Excellency the President wished to address both Houses of Parliament. The sitting was suspended.

Address by the President
The President of the Republic addressed the Parliament

His Excellency Arthur N.R. Robinson, TC, OCC, SC, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago addressed the Members of both Houses assembled together. Following the address the sitting was suspended.
