Leave of absence was granted to Mr. Rushton Paray, MP for Mayaro, from Sittings of the House during the period October 13-25, 2021 and to Mr. Esmond Forde, MP for Tunapuna, from today’s Sitting of the House.
The Speaker of the House read a statement of her ruling on Section 36 of the Constitution.
The House met in Extraordinary Session to consider a Motion pursuant to Section 36 of the Constitution for removal of office of the President of the Republic. The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, MP, read the motion.
The Sitting concluded at 11:48 a.m. The House of Representatives adjourned for the convening of the Electoral College for the vote on the adoption of the motion in accordance with section 36(1)(c) of the Constitution. The Electoral College met at 12:15 p.m. With 24 votes for, 47 votes against and no abstentions, the motion was defeated.
