The Speaker granted Leave of absence to Mrs. Camille Robinson-Regis, MP for Trincity/Maloney and Mr. Colm Imbert, MP for Diego Martin North/East, from today’s sitting of the house.
The House paid tribute to Mr. Hansley Hanoomansingh, who passed away on July 4, 2025. He served as the member for Caroni East during the 2nd Independent Parliament. A minute of silence was observed.

The Attorney General, Sen. the Hon. John Jeremie, SC, moved a motion to take note of the statement of the President setting out the specific grounds on which the decision to declare a state of public emergency was based. Hon. Pennelope Beckles-Robinson, MP, Leader of the Opposition, was the sole contributor to the debate. The motion was approved.
The Attorney General, Sen. the Hon. John Jeremie, moved a motion that the Proclamation made by the President on the 18th day of July, 2025 declaring that a state of public emergency exists in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago be extended for a further period of three months. Five members contributed to the debate before the wind up by the Attorney General. With 39 votes for, no votes against and no abstentions, the motion was approved.
The Attorney General, Sen. the Hon. John Jeremie, SC, moved a motion that the Prisons (No. 2) Order, 2025 be approved. The Member for Port of Spain South, Mr. Keith Scotland, MP, was the sole contributor to the debate. With 28 votes for, no votes against and 11 abstentions, the motion was approved.
The House brought greetings on the occasion of Emancipation Day.
