Deferral of Private Member's Business

The Leader of Government Business, Sen. the Hon. Darrell Allahar, moved a motion that urgent government business take precedence over Private Member’s Business at today’s Sitting, with the continued debate on the Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Bill, 2026. The motion was approved.

The Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Bill, 2026

Debate resumed on the Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Bill, 2026. Four members made contributions (27 over the course of four days of debate) before the Attorney General rose to wind up the debate. The Bill was then read a second time. The Senate then resolved into a Committee of the Whole to consider the bill clause by clause. The Bill was considered and approved without amendment. At third reading, a division was taken, the result of which was 15  for, 14 against and 1 abstention. The Bill required a three-fifths majority, and as such was not approved.
