Beetham Landfill Fires

The Member for St. Joseph sought leave to raise as a definite matter the issue of the Beetham Landfill Fires. The Deputy Speaker ruled that the matter did not qualify under Standing Order 12, but should be raised under Standing Order 11 (Matters raised on the Motion for the Adjournment of the House).

The Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs made a Statement in the House on matters pertaining to information begin circulated in the public domain related to a series of oil spills in south Trinidad.

Adopt Interim Report - JSC Insurance (No.2) Bill, 2013

The Leader of the House moved that the JSC appointed to consider the Insurance (No.2) Bill, 2013 be allowed an extension of 20 months to complete its work by March 31, 2014. Leave was granted.

Private Motion: Unacceptable Crime Level

The Member for Diego Martin North/East moved a Private Motion calling on the Government to take immediate steps to deal with the unacceptable level of crime facing the citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago. The Minister of National Security was the first to respond. Debate on the Motion was suspended.

Legislative Arrangements - Management of the Police Service

The Member for Diego Martin North/East raised two matters on the Motion for the adjournment of the House. The first was “the need for the Parliament to revisit the legislative arrangements for the management of the Police Service.” The Minister of National Security responded.

Delay in Enacting Procurement Legislation

The second matter raised by the Member for Diego Martin North/East was “the adverse consequences of the inordinate delay on the part of the Government in enacting appropriate procurement legislation.” The Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development responded.
