The President of the Senate announced the passing of former Senator, Mr. Daniel Reid on April 21, 2016. Sen. the Hon. Franklin Khan, Sen. Wade Mark, Sen. Dhanayshar Mahabir and the President of the Senate paid tribute to Mr. Reid and extended condolences to his family. A minute of silence was observed.
Twelve Papers were laid in the names of the Minister of Finance, Vice President of the Senate and the Minister of Rural Development and Local Government. See Order Paper for details.
Two reports, the Third Interim Report of the Joint Select Committee appointed to consider and report on the Whistleblower Protection Bill, 2015 and the Report of the Joint Select Committee on the Family and Children Division Bill, 2016 were presented. See Supplemental Order Paper for details.

Three questions qualified for oral answer and were answered. See Order Paper for details.
Sen. the Hon. Franklin Khan moved a motion to grant an extension of seven weeks, until June 17th 2016, in order for the Joint Select Committee appointed to consider and report on the Whistleblower Protection Bill, 2016 to submit their final report. This motion was carried.
The Minister of Finance moved the motion to confirm the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) (No. 2) Order 2016. Hon. Colm Imbert further moved that debate to confirm the Customs (Amendment to the First Schedule) Order, 2016 be conducted simultaneously. By agreement of the Senate, debate began on both motions. Both motions were carried.
