15th Sitting of the House of Representatives
1st Session - 11th Republican Parliament
Leave of absence was granted to MP for Cumuto/Manzanilla, the Hon. Christine Newallo Hosein, MP for today’s sitting.
Fourteen papers were laid at this Sitting in the names of the Leader of the House, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and the Minister of Planning and Development. Papers 2 – 4 were referred to the Public Accounts Committee. See Order Paper for details.
Two Urgent Questions were posed to the Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development and the Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries. Both questions were answered. See Order Paper for details.
Seven questions qualified for oral answer. The Government answered questions #19, #39, #40, #41 and #45. Questions #25 and #44 were deferred. Answers to Written questions on the Order Paper were circulated. See Order Paper for details.
Two requests were made for leave to move the adjournment of the House on Definite Matters of Urgent Public Importance namely the crippling effects of the restrictive access to Foreign Exchange by businesses and individuals and the confirmed threat to the health and welfare of the country by the Zika virus. The Speaker of the House was not satisfied that the first matter qualified under Standing Order 17. However, the Speaker agreed that the second matter qualified and therefore debate on this motion will stand over until 6:00 p.m.
The Attorney General introduced the Family and Children Division Bill at this Sitting.
A motion was moved by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. Colm Imbert, for the approval of the notification of the nomination of Mr. Dinanath Ramkissoon as a member of the Police Service Commission. Debate began on this motion.
Debate began on the matter “the confirmed threat to the health and welfare of the country by the Zika virus” that was raised by Dr. Tim Gopeesingh, MP.
