Debate continued on a Private Motion by Independent Senator Anthony Vieira asking the Government to provide a clear plan to update Service Commissions. Opposition Senator Jayanti Lutchmedial was first to contribute on this second day of debate. 12 Senators made contributions before Senator Vieira rose to conclude the debate. The Motion was approved.
Senator Wade Mark raised the following matter on the Motion for the Adjournment of the House, the failure of the Government to direct the Chief Personnel Officer to meet with trade unions representing workers in the public sector, and to settle outstanding wage negotiations. The Minister of Finance responded.
Senator Mark raised a second matter on the Motion for the Adjournment of the Senate, the need for the Government to explain its recent decision to impose a quota system and a 50 per cent increase in the import duties via the CET on cement. The Minister of Trade and Industry responded.
