10th Sitting of the Senate

The Vice-President advised that the office of President of the Senate was vacant and asked the Clerk to conduct an election for the office of President of the Senate. Mr. Nigel De Freitas was elected President of the Senate following the resignation of the Sen. the Hon. Christine Kangaloo. The Sitting was suspended to allow the new President of the Senate to be robed.
The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Senator David Nakhid (out of the country). The President of the Senate read the instrument declaring the seat of Sen the Hon. Christine Kangaloo vacant.
Mr. Ritchie Sookhai was appointed a Government Senator, replacing Senator Kangaloo.

The Senate adjourned to Wednesday January 25, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at which time debate is expected on a Finance Bill. Before adjourning, the President of the Senate thanked the Senate for the kind comments extended to him upon his election. The Sitting adjourned at 10:44 a.m.
