Appointment of Members to JSC Insurance Bill

The Attorney General moved the motion to approve the appointment of 6 members from the Senate to the Joint Select Committee that will consider the Insurance Bill, 2013. The motion was approved.

Confirm the Excise Duty (Compressed Natural Gas) Order, 2013

The Minister of Finance and the Economy moved a Motion asking the House to confirm the Excise Duty (Compressed Natural Gas) Order, 2013. The Member for Diego Martin North/East was the first to enter the debate. The Member for Couva North then stood to voice her opinions followed by the Member for ( ), followed by the Member for Chaguanas West. The Minister of Finance and the Economy then rose to respond to the contributions of the Ministers. The Motion was then passed with a majority vote of 17 For 8 Against 1 Abstention

Increase In Borrowing - Treasury Notes Act

The Minister of Finance and the Economy moved a motion asking the House to allow the Government to increase its capacity to borrow under the Treasury Notes Act. In so doing, a similar Motion was considered under the Treasury Bills Act. The Member for Diego Martin North/East was the first to enter the debate, followed by the Minister of Education, the Member for Port of Spain North/St. Ann’s West and the member for Chaguanas West. Seven members made contributions before the Minister of Finance and the Economy rose to conclude. The Motions were approved by a margin of 15 for, six against and no abstentions.
