
Mrs. Muriel Donawa-McDavidson
Ms. Muriel Donawa served as a Member of the House of Representatives (Fyzabad) in the 2nd Independence Parliament (1966-1971). She had previously contested the Fyzabad constituency for elections to the 1st Independence Parliament, but was defeated by Mr. Vernon Jamadhar of the DLP.
Subsequently, Ms. Donawa would contest and win the Fyzabad constituency a second time in 1971.
Between 1976 and 1981, Mrs. Donawa McDavidson served in the Senate as a Parliamentary Secretary. She would return to the House of Representatives in 1981, this time as the Member for San Juan. Having married, Mrs. Muriel Donawa-McDavidson would contest the Laventille constituency in 1986, becoming only one of three members of the PNM to win their seat in 1986 (the other two were Patrick Manning and Morris Marshall).
Mrs. Donawa McDavidson died on January 15, 2001 and was interred on January 18, 2001. Tributes were paid to her in the House of Representatives on 16 January 2001 by Hon. Basdeo Panday, MP (Prime Minister), Hon. Patrick Manning, MP (Leader of the Opposition) and Hon. Dr. Rupert T. Griffith (Speaker of the House) . Tributes were also paid to Mrs. Donawa McDavidson in the Senate on 25 January 2001
by Sen. the Hon. Ganace Ramdial (President of the Senate), Senator the Honourable Lindsay Gillette (Minister of Energy and Energy Industries), Senator Danny Montano and Sen. Dr. Eastlyn McKenzie.
