Senator Melissa Ramkissoon
Ms. Melissa Ramkissoon was appointed an Independent Senator on September 23, 2015 at the start of the 11th Republican Parliament. She first served as a Temporary Independent Senator on May 25, 2015.
Ms. Ramkissoon, an engineer by profession, is a graduate of the University if the West Indies, St Augustine earning both a Master of Science Degree in Project Management (Distinction) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons). She has received certification from the American Petroleum Institute and the Infraspection Institute, USA.
From 2008 to 2012, Ms Ramkissoon worked in the Refining & Marketing, Refinery Inspection Engineering Field. Since September 2012 she has served as an Inspection Engineer, working in an upstream environment, Trinmar Operations, Exploration and Production. She assisted in developing procedures for the Asset Integrity Management System related to Pressure Vessels and developing templates for Final Inspection reports, among many other tasks.
Ms. Ramkissoon has the prestigious distinction of authoring a technical paper entitled "Maintenance Strategies for Aboveground Storage Tanks in Crude Oil Service" that was featured in the July/August 2015 issue of the reputable and international Inspectioneering Oil and Gas Journal.
Ms. Ramkissoon is a member of the National Association for Corrosion Engineers (NACE). She is also involved in the Non-Governmental Organization youth initiative, The Big Brother, Big Sister Programme, a project of the Heroes Foundation. This programme focuses on the mentorship of less fortunate children stationed at children homes throughout the country.Â
