Mrs. Mary King was appointed a Senator and Minister of Planning, Economic and Social Restructuring and Gender Affairs on May 28, 2010.

Mrs. King served as an Independent Senator during the 6th, 7th and 8th Republican Parliaments (2001 - 2007). She also served on a number of Committees including the Public Accounts (Enterprises) Committee, and chaired one of the oversight Committees, the Joint Select Committee - Government Ministries, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises - Part II.
