Ms. Laurel Lezama had the distinction of being the youngest Senator in the 9th Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. She was appointed to serve as a Government Senator following the victory of the People's National Movement in the 2007 General Election.

Ms. Lezama would again serve as a Government Senator in the 12th Republican Parliament.
