Senator Elton Prescott SC
Mr. Elton Prescott, SC, was appointed an Independent Senator on Friday June 18, 2010. Mr. Prescott S.C. is a trial lawyer of thirty years experience and a labour law and industrial relations specialist. Although Mr. Prescott now acts mainly in civil litigation, he has previous experience as a State Counsel and in criminal law.
He received widespread recognition as Chairman of a Commission appointed by the President to consider the application of the death penalty in Trinidad and Tobago, now popularly known as the Prescott Commission, and as indicated above he was a director of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago.
In December 1998 he was appointed Chairman of the Standing Tripartite Committee on labour matters. He has also served on the Police Complaints Authority from its inception to 2005.
