The Right Honourable Dr. Winston Mahabir
Member of Legislative Council
Dr. Winston Jules Mahabir entered the Legislative Council in 1956 as the elected Member for San Fernando West. Well known for his debating skills, Dr. Mahabir was given the sobriquet "silver tongue" which he later would state was one of the greatest honours bestowed upon him. Dr. Mahabir served as a Minister of Government until he left politics in 1961.
Dr. Mahabir passed away in Canada in 2003. Tributes were paid to Dr. Mahabir in the House of Representatives on Monday October 6, 2003 by the Honourable Kenneth Valley and by the Speaker of the House, the Honourable Barendra Sinanan.
