The Honourable Dr. Keith Rowley
Born in Mason Hall, Tobago and having attended Bishop’s High School, Tobago. Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley was the recipient of the prestigious Sylvan Bowles scholarship which provided entry into the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica from which he graduated with First Class Honours in Geography and First Class Honours in Geology. He is a volcanologist who graduated in Geochemistry with an MSc. and PhD from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Trinidad. As a volcanologist he was part of a team which for many years provided individual governments with support through scientific guidance and population protection and civil defense decision-making during various volcanic emergencies throughout the Caribbean islands and other regions.
Dr. Rowley was Research Fellow and Head of Department at the Seismic Research Unit at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.
Dr. Rowley was appointed to the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago as a Senator in 1987 and was subsequently elected and re-elected for nine consecutive Parliamentary terms during which, for various periods, he served as Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Marine Resources; Minister of Planning and Development; Minister of Housing; and Minister Trade and Industry. As a Minister of Government, he served as a designated Governor of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
Dr. Rowley also served as Leader of the Opposition from 2010 to 2015. He was Deputy Political Leader of the People’s National Movement (PNM) from 1987 to 2008 and has been Political Leader from 2010 to present.
Dr. Rowley was elected Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago in September 2015 and again in August 2020 where he continues to serve at this time.
