Training – 22nd National Youth Parliament

Training for the 22nd National Youth Parliamentary debate began on September 30, 2025 at the Office of the Parliament.

Day 1Orientation

A briefing session was held on that day and all participants received words of encouragement from featured speakers which included the Speaker of the House, Hon. Jagdeo Singh, MP and the President of the Senate, Sen. the Hon. Wade Mark, among others.

Day 2Vocal and Research Skills

The first training session was held virtually on October 3 and was facilitated by Ms. Colleen Holder and Ms. Chantal La Roche. The facilitators explored the areas of vocal skills and research skills.

Day 3 and Day 4 – Standing Orders

Training continued on October 8 and 10, exploring other subjects, such as the use of the standing orders. Independent Senator, Sen. Francis Lewis, engaged our participants in his presentation.

Day 5 – Etiquette

On October 16, participants were trained on proper dress, etiquette and civility. The session was facilitated by Ms. Shermane Rivers, Principal Consultant at the Etiquette School of the Caribbean.

Day 6 –

Training again took place on October 22, 2025. During this session, former National Youth Parliamentarian and current Minister of Land and Legal Affairs and Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Member for Barataria / San Juan, Hon. Saddam Hosein, MP, met with the participants.

Day 7 –

The next training for our National Youth Parliamentarians was held virtually on October 28, 2025. Facilitators at this training included: Mrs. María de Lourdes Gutiérrez Ortiz Monasterio, Cybercrime Regional Coordinator Central America and the Caribbean Global Programme on Cybercrime United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Mr.Bertrand Moses, Child Protection Officer, UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Office.

Day 8 – Mock Debate

On October 30, our NYP participants were in the House Chamber for their first mock debate. They also learnt more about debating techniques and the use of standing orders.

Day 9 –

On November 6th, another training session was held. Senator Francis Lewis, as well as Mr. Daniel Rasheed, were facilitators for that training.

Representatives from the United Nations were also in attendance to deliver a presentation. Members of the Youth Parliamentary Network were in attendance as guests/mentors for the day’s event.

Day 10 – Rehearsal of Speeches for Debate Day

On November 11th, a virtual training took place to address the topic of “Rehearsal of Speeches for Debate Day”.

Day 11 – Dress Rehearsal

On Monday 17th November, 2025, participants of the 22nd National Youth Parliament took part in a dress rehearsal in the House of Representatives Chamber ahead of the debate scheduled for Monday 24th November, 2025 at 9:30 a.m.
