Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago to co-host a Special Parliamentary Dialogue on the Summit of the Americas

A Special Parliamentary Dialogue on the Summit of the Americas has been jointly organized by the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago and the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas (FIPA). Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Americas and Parliamentarians will participate in the Dialogue entitled “Engaging Parliaments in the Summit of the Americas Process” that will take place in the Parliament Chamber, the Red House, Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, on Thursday April 16, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The purpose of this Dialogue is to explore the potential for deeper cooperation between Parliaments and governments toward advancing hemispheric goals set forth in the Declaration of Commitment of Port-of-Spain.

The Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas was created in 2001 to promote parliamentary participation in the inter-American system and to contribute to inter-parliamentary dialogue in dealing with issues on the hemispheric agenda. Based in Ottawa, Canada, FIPA brings together national parliaments of OAS member states.

Similar dialogues were also held prior to the Third and Fourth Summits of the Americas held in Quebec City, Canada and Mar del Plata, Argentina.
