On Friday July 27, 1990 at 6:05 p.m., armed gunmen stormed the Parliament Chamber where the House of Representatives was in session, taking the then Prime Minister, eight of his Cabinet Ministers and six other Members of Parliament hostage.
Thirty-five years later, on July 27, 2025, the Office of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago paid tribute to those who lost their lives in service with a wreath laying ceremony. This solemn remembrance began at 5:50 p.m. with wreaths being laid by
- Her Excellency, Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T, President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago;
- Senator the Honourable Wade Mark, President of the Senate;
- The Honourable Jagdeo Singh, MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives;
- Senator the Honourable Darrell Allahar, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister;
- The Honourable Penelope Beckles-Robinson, MP, Leader of the Opposition;
- Senator Kenya Charles, Vice President of the Senate;
- Dr. Aiyna Ali, MP, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives;
- Air Vice Marshal Darryl Daniel, Chief of Defence Staff;
- Mr. Allister Guevarro, Commissioner of Police; and
- Mr. Nizam Mohammed, Former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
