The President granted leave of absence to Sen. Michael Annisette and Sen. Annette Nicholson-Alfred. Mrs. Parvatee Anmolsingh-Mahabir and Prof. David Picou were appointed to temporarily replace Senators Annisette and Nicholson-Alfred respectively.
The Civil Aviation (Amendment) Bill, 2010, which was passed in the House of Representatives on Wednesday January 20, 2010, was read a first time in the Senate.
Three Papers were laid by the Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister in the Ministry of Finance. See the Supplemental Order Paper for details.

Sen. Dr. Adesh Nanan moved a Private Motion which asks the Government to take immediate steps to include the use of renewable energy in the planning process for Government buildings. Sen. Dana Seetahal was the first to enter the debate, followed by Sen. Dr. Jennifer Kernahan and the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries. Debate on the Motion was then suspended.
At its next sitting the Senate is expected to debate the Supreme Court of Judicature (Amendment) Bill, 2010 and the Evidence (Amendment) Bill, 2010. The sitting adjourned at 4:32 p.m.
