Leave of absence was given to the Member for Member for La Horquetta/Talparo (out of the country), Member for Tunapuna (out of country July 15-22), the Member for St. Augustine (out of the country July 13-25), the Member for Arouca/Maloney and the Member for Port-of-Spain North/St. Ann’s West (out of country July 18 to Aug 1).
Six Papers were laid. See the Order Paper and Second Supplemental Order Paper. The Minister of Finance and the Economy moved that Papers nos. 2 and 3 be referred to the Public Accounts Committee and Paper no. 4 be referred to the Public Accounts (Enterprises) Committee. The Motion was put and agreed to.
The Member for Chaguanas East presented the Report of the Joint Select Committee appointed to consider and report on the Insurance (No. 2) Bill, 2013
Question nos. 148, 165 were deferred for 1 week. Question no. 170 was re-directed to Ministry of Local Government and deferred for 1 week. Question nos. 158, 160,161, 168 and 172 orally answered. Question nos. 174,175,176,179,180 and 181 postponed to next sitting at expiration of question time.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development made a Statement regarding completion of the Government Campus Plaza by 2015.
The Minister of National Security made a statement regarding the Rule and Function of Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force.
The Prime Minister made a statement relating to the Report of the Commission of Enquiry into the failure of CL Financial Limited, Colonial Life Insurance Company (Trinidad) Limited, Clico Investment Bank Limited, British American Insurance Company (Trinidad) Limited, Caribbean Money Market Brokers Limited and the Hindu Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited.
The Minister of Finance and the Economy moved the second reading of the Securities (Amendment) Bill, 2013. The Member for St. Jospeh was the first to contribute followed by the Member for Couva South and the Member for Diego Martin North/East. The Minister of Finance and the Economy then rose to wind up the debate. The Bill was then referred to a committee of the House to be considered clause by clause. The Bill was then read a third time and passed with Amendments.
The Minister of Health moved that the House consider a Motion to approve Senate amendments to the Nurses and Midwives Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2014. The Member for Diego Martin Central was the first to contribute on the Motion.
The House Adjourned to Friday July 25, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. for Private Member’s Day to continue debate on the Life Sport Programme (Private Motion No. 1).
