Announcements / Leave of Absence

The President of the Senate granted leave of absence to Sen. the Hon. Dr. Bhoendradatt Tewarie, Sen. Diane Baldeo-Chadeesingh and Sen. Helen Drayton who are all out of the country. The President then read a letter from the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago appointing Mr. Larry Lalla, Mr. Stuart Young and Dr. Sharon Le Gall as temporary Senators. They then took the Oath of Allegiance as temporary Senators for the day’s sitting.

The President of the Senate then sought and obtained leave for the Clerk to read into the record a letter from an Attorney-at-Law representing the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Mr. Ashwin Creed, in response to statements made in the Senate about a close relative of his.

The Attorney General moved the second reading of the Miscellaneous Provisions (Administration of Justice) Bill, 2014, which was passed in the House of Representatives on June 16, 2014. Sen. Faris Al-Rawi was the first to contribute followed by Sen. Elton Prescott, SC, (Temp)Sen. Larry Lalla, Opposition Sen. Shamfa Cudjoe, Sen. Dr. Victor Wheeler, Sen. the Hon. Emmanuel George, Sen. Sturt Young, Sen. Dr. Dhanayshar Mahabir, Sen. Anthony Vieira, Sen. Camille Robinson-Regis, Sen. David Small, Sen. Rev. Joy Abdul-Mohan, Sen. the Hon. Gary Griffith and the Attorney General.

The Senate adjourned to Wednesday July 16, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.

At the next sitting the Attorney General is expected to conclude debate on the Miscellaneous Provisions (Administration of Justice) Bill, 2014, and the Minister of Transport is expected to move the second reading of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill, 2014. The sitting ended at 9:30 p.m.
