Leave of Absence

The Vice-President of the Senate indicated that the President of the Senate was out of the country, and granted leave of absence to Sen. the Hon. Fazal Karim and Sen. Nicole Dyer-Griffith. Mr. Jamal Mohammed, Mr. Shane Mohammed and Mr. Don Sylvester were appointed to temporarily replace the President of the Senate, Senator Karim and Sen. Dyer-Griffith respectively.

The Vice-President made a brief statement acknowledging Indian Arrival Day, which is celebrated on May 30th each year.

The Regional Health Authorities (Amendment) Bill, 2011

The Committee Stage of the Regional Health Authorities (Amendment) Bill, 2011 resumed. The Bill was considered and passed without amendment. It was then read a third time and passed.

Government Business: Bills Second Reading
The Administration of Justice (Electronic Monitoring) Bill, 2011

The Minister of Justice moved the second reading of the Administration of Justice (Electronic Monitoring) Bill, 2011. Debate then commenced with Sen. Pennelope Beckles being the first to contribute, followed by Sen. Elton Prescott, SC, Sen. Faris Al-Rawi, Sen. Corinne Baptiste-McKnight and Sen. Jamal Mohammed. Debate on the Bill was suspended.

The Senate adjourned to Tuesday June 5, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.

At the next sitting, debate is expected to begin on a money bill, which will be debated in the House on June 4th. Before adjourning, the Leader of Government Business, the Leader of the Opposition Bench and the dean of the Independent Bench paid tribute to the East Indian community on the occasion of Indian Arrival Day (May 30th). The sitting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
