32nd Sitting of the House of Representatives
3rd Session - 10th Republican Parliament
Debate resumed on a Private Motion of no confidence in the Prime Minister and Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The Minister of Foreign Affairs was first to contribute, followed by the Minister of Labour, Small and Micro Enterprise Development, the Minister of Science and Technology and the Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister. The Leader of the Opposition then rose to respond to contributions made during the debate. The Prime Minister then rose to respond under standing order 34(2), right of reply. The Motion was defeated by a margin of none for, 26 against, no abstentions.
The Prime Minister moved a matter of privilege against the Leader of the Opposition, suggesting that he committed a contempt by words uttered in the House during the debate of no confidence. The Speaker ruled that a prima facie case had been made out, and he referred the matter to the Committee of Privileges for consideration and report.
Before adjourning, tributes were extended on the occasion of Indian Arrival Day and Corpus Cristi, both of which fall this year on May 30, 2013. The sitting ended at 7:27 p.m.
